Although not crucial, the ability to "be funny" is very powerful in human interaction and has a high social value for mating. Ok, enough bub of the science center. To put the whole world loves a simple actor. No. The whole world loves a good comedian. Although I I'm not a comedian, and general consumer media and lover of comedy shows, I can help provide some common sense tips on how you became in one.

As a child I used to see at night standing U.S. comedy shows, and HBO specials, so that makes me an authority. Not really, but listen. In fact, I read a lot of biographies of how some comedians made their break. The first two suggestions are really more of a mentality verses how, the tip of the last sample of how to begin.

Persistence

As with any successful company that many have tried and failed in, as Napoleon Hill discovered that you must have a burning desire and a willingness to constantly improve.
The fame is sought by many but achieved by only a few few. To be a truly great actor has to perfect his art, not following. The faster the material fails, the better. The faster the experience audiences the best.

Find Models

As Tony Robbins says, another mechanism is to find successful models based on your style out of. No, I did not say copy his style. From the humor and being an actor to find and be a character in the verses the jokes and lines, you can find the character models who want to be. A few categories:

Neurotic New Yorker / Jewish - Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Romano, Carroll O'Connor.

Ethnic Humor - David Chappelle, Chris Rock

Sarcastic & Sad - Dennis Leary, Janeane Garofalo,

Own Humor - The Amazing Jonathan, Carrot Top, Jeff Dunham,

Main Stream and energy - Dane Cook, Paulie Shore

Just do it - Start the open mic circuit

I have heard stories of Ellen Degeneres, Jeff Foxworthy, Jerry Seinfeld even starting at the open mic circuit. Open mic is where at least one night a week, a comedy club or bar gives anyone and all who can pronounce a semblance of the rhetoric of the opportunity to stand before an audience of 2 to 7 minutes. Open mic, in general, has a mix of artists and poets, acoustic guitar acts, and comedians. Some are known only by a matter of performance over the other.

Anyway, it seems many top comedians their feet wet by participating in every open microphone that can, as often as you can early in his career. It's a hard life and are not paid when starts first. The hope is that you can test the material and draw the attention of the club owner, who may or may not regularly do you make a reservation payment.
