Can you help me identify the HBO show from 1982 or early 1983?

I am sure I am not confusing term with something else. I had six years at the time of my memories can be distorted a bit about the plot though. It was most likely the original schedule and may have been British. Each episode of no more than 30 minutes. A limited series / miniseries 6 episodes with a sci-fi fantasy bent to it. I believe the plot involved two children and an assistant. They had been teleported out of the house and each episode was thought they were going to get home, some new twist appeared.

Sounds like "Sliders" or perhaps "Voyager" with Jon-Erik Hexum.
